As part of the Division of Undergraduate Education, the ANTrepreneur Center is a hub where UCI Students can get help to develop the skills necessary to start, operate or grow their business. We provide resources, events, programs and services for those who are interested in innovation and entrepreneurship.
Under the general direction of the Associate Dean of the Division of Undergraduate Education, the Director provides leadership and direction to the ANTrepreneur Center (AC), which provides student entrepreneurial programs, advising/consultations, mentorship and outreach to raise awareness of entrepreneurship. Provides strong leadership to the AC staff and creates a culture of inclusive excellence and engagement. Sets vision, objectives, and plans strategies designed to support entrepreneurial experiences for students across campus. This position’s responsibilities include short and long-term strategic planning; oversight of budget, staffing, and resources; management of the unit’s day-to-day operations and administrative processes; and oversight of the unit’s programs and growth/fundraising opportunities with campus/external partners. Works with industry and local for and non-profits to develop programming for students and to engage the community. Applies advanced, specialized student services expertise, advises students on the most complex student issues; and has programmatic responsibility offered by the ANTrepreneur Center that has a discrete budget, has impact beyond the unit, and involves establishing strategic goals. The Director is expected to identify systemic problems and issues and propose solutions to management. Identifies and resolves issues, interprets policies, and demonstrates strong knowledge of all student academic support services. Recommends improvements to department services, practices and procedures. In coordination with the Associate Dean and the AC Faculty Advisory Board, identifies ways to strengthen and improve the quality of the various AC student programs and aligning its programming with the curriculum across the campus’ entrepreneurial ecosystem.
- Experience with early-stage and growth phases of a start-up company in a founding role, or 5 years’ experience working in a consulting role focusing on start-up formation and growth, or equivalent. 3+ years of counseling experience and program development.
- Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
- Experience with and has demonstrated success with fundraising projects of various sizes. Externally oriented, and able to enthusiastically embrace the activity of cultivating and soliciting from the financial community, prospects, and donors.
- Excellent interpersonal skills to develop relationships and relate easily and effectively with people within and outside the University, including both strong written and verbal communication skills. Solid interpersonal skills for effective collaboration and problem solving with all levels of academia and staff. Advanced verbal and written communication skills. Multicultural competencies: ability to work with diverse populations, knowledge and experience working and interacting effectively with diverse groups of staff, faculty, and student populations. Excellent supervisory skills and strong leadership presence/qualities to successfully hire, train, develop, engage and support professional and student staff in a positive and supportive nature, while inspiring staff to progress towards and achieve their individual, unit and campus goals. Skills in monitoring / assessing people, processes or services, to make improvements. Ability in problem identification and reasoning; ability to develop original ideas to solve problems, persuasion, leadership. In-depth knowledge of the field's post-degree employment opportunities and practices. Advanced knowledge of advising and counseling techniques. Possess business and political acumen, tact, diplomacy, and the ability to handle difficult situations with sensitivity. Skills in project management, social perceptiveness to be aware of others' reactions and understanding why they react as they do. Experience with early-stage and growth phases of a start-up company in a founding role, or 5 years’ experience working in a consulting role focusing on start-up formation and growth, or equivalent. Knowledge of University-specific computer application programs and knowledge of University and departmental principles and procedures involved in risk assessment and evaluating risks as to likelihood and consequences.
